The UCLA Global Citizens Fellowship empowers exceptional undergraduate students to transform the global community through public service.
By inspiring a generation of young leaders and humanitarian ambassadors, the Fellowship seeks to promote the ideals of global citizenship and service to humanity.
Dear UCLA Bruins and Members of the Campus Community:
It is with great pleasure to share the news of the creation of a powerful new partnership in support of UCLA’s community service and humanitarian efforts. The UCLA Global Citizens Fellowship, which has operated under the umbrella of Student Affairs since 2012, has now established a collaborative relationship with the Burkle Center, which will increase the visibility and scope of the Fellowship many times over. The anticipated synergy between the Global Citizens Fellowship (which is the University's flagship international service initiative) and the Burkle Center (the university's flagship international relations center) will offer new opportunities for recruitment and selection of candidates, project planning, and dissemination of information regarding the achievement of the service projects.
In this partnership, the Burkle Center will serve as a primary source of outreach and marketing efforts on campus and will provide a central location through which students may obtain information about the fellowship. Student Affairs will continue to administer the application process, maintain fellowship funds, and spearhead future fund-raising efforts. Given the extraordinary nature of past Fellowship projects – including a digital literacy program in Ecuador, teacher training workshops in Zambia, a Rural Emergency Communication System in Uganda, and a program in Togo to empower children with IDD through participation on a sustainable snail farm – we look forward to a competitive selection process and summers highlighted by wonderful new projects.
